Barnaby was a discarded character for the Mr. Snugglegums Movie. His evil ability to hold up pants was the crux of the plot - that it's better to be a good person with pants that fall down than to be an evil pants up monster. Most of the writers were extra happy when the show was canceled and that pile of junk didn't have to go on their sparse résumé. The writers landed on the replacement film to reuse assets and recoup costs, "Space Bunnies in the Eighth Dimension vs. Pirate Asian Princesses" and wound up with very prestigious awards.
