He gets his attitude from the fact that he considers himself a writer - a good one at that. While he is technically a writer, he is not nearly as good as he thinks he is. This is mostly due to the people he hangs out with, who also consider themselves writers to an extent, and are in the same boat as him, if not notably worse. Once his book became a moderately decent seller, he beacame even more full of himself than he was. This led to him trying to start a writer's club called "The Seventeen", but after the second meeting he was the only member.
